A Historic Garden, Salisbury 2007
On what should have been a glorious summer's evening in the finest Cathedral Close, over 100 invited guests attended the Garden Re-Opening. The owners had commissioned The Down to Earth Partners Ltd (DTEP Ltd) the previous year to rejuvenate the garden and create new features within its historic walls.
The evening was the culmination of this fantastic project for DTEP Ltd. DTEP Ltd gave the key note address giving reference to the changes that had occured since the 1200s, and the large number of different owners, garden staff and tradesmen that had been involved throughout; each playing an important part in the garden's history. Reference was also made to the Canons and clergy who may have sat within the garden to gain inspiration for their sermons to be preached in the cathedral later. The fine specimen Mulberry and Gingko trees were also mentioned.
The owners had also commissioned the internationally respected designer John Brookes MBE to create a new feature near the house; this in turn will become of 'historical' importance along with the reference in Gertrude Jekyll's book 'Wood and Garden'.
DTEP Ltd concluded by saying "The owners are safeguarding this garden for future generations: through a team effort the historic character has been maintained whilst introducing contemporary ideas, styles and concepts. The overview has always been to create a garden for living in and to enjoy being in."
Proceeds from the evening were divided between The Salisbury Museum, also within the Cathedral Close and Home Start charity.
