Firstly the side garden was tackled where The Down to Earth Partners Ltd (DTEP Ltd's) clients required ease of maintenance; an area that they could enjoy the sun; as well as areas that children could explore and play in.  The bank was dug out to create a central patio with smaller areas stepped off that provided sitting and ‘hiding’ areas for children. The planting gave all year round interest and was chosen to provide colour, texture, scent and form.  To this end herbs, small rock plants, cornus, ferns, phormium and the like were chosen.  Cotoneaster horizontalis were chosen to assist retaining the steeper banked slopes.

At the rear of the house the bank was cleared and then extensively planted with heathers (which had grown there previously) and specimen plants. The heather will grow to form a mat which will again assist in retaining the sandy bank and provide year round interest with both foliage and flowers.

At the front the bank beside the drive was partially cleared of shrubs and then retained with the use of ‘sleepers’ designed in a chevron pattern.  This combined with the additional ‘architectural plants’ has created a very striking feature.
